R2AK 2019 Sponsorship

The Race to Alaska has not lost popularity among our customers. This year we were asked to sponsor another determined boater Andrew Akehurst of Little Island Woodworks. He’s apprenticed with Abernethy & Gaudin for 4 years and he’ll be building a 22-foot rowing sailboat to participate in the race from Port Townsend to Ketchikan, AK.

We’ll be supplying Andrew with the epoxy he needs to complete the boat. Look forward to future updates on his progress and results of the race in June.

Buying the entire load, one of them was renamed Mary Anne. This was unfailing good luck as the family required a tender for our summer camp on the West coast of Vancouver Island.

Jan’s Day Off: Puddleduck

Built by Jan during our early years of family life and marriage, I think it kept him focused and sane.

She has a Howard Chappelle  21’6” fisherman’s launch hull and a William Garden designed cabin structure. Eighteen hundred hours were spent on her creation; starting with the lofting in 1981. Carvel planked of Western Red Cedar with splined seams over traditional steam-bent oak ribs.
