Student Excellence Awards 2021! - West Wind Hardwood

We asked our shop teachers to nominate their deserving students for a chance to win some recognition and a grand prize of a $100 West Wind gift card. Our judges, employees of West Wind, including those who have completed their joinery apprenticeships had a tough time deciding the lucky prize recipient!

And The Winner Is:

Locklyn Patenaude – Kwalikum Secondary

Locklyn’s grade 11 projects included the garry oak box and the pictured black walnut and multiple wood table! Her teacher, Rob Gibbs, says she is now enrolled in a dual credit cabinetry course VIU for her grad year. Well done Locklyn!

2nd Place

Zane Henderson, GP Vanier Secondary School

Troy says this of his work:

“Zane joined woodwork for the first time this year. He has a strong background in robotics and electronics so he brought with him a strong set of transferable skills.”

We thought this project was super unique in that it incorporated electronics, stellar work for a first-time woodworker, we hope he keeps at it!

3rd Place

Blake Konschak, GP Vanier Secondary

Blake put in extra time to complete this logging truck model. Troy says he was always keen to ask questions and his hard work really did pay off.

I think we should have his truck to display in our office… just saying!

Honorable Mentions

These teacher’s and students should be proud! Perhaps next year’s projects will land you on the winner’s podium!

Hudson Verigin – Grade 8, Walnut Grove Secondary

Kali Brown – Grade 10, GP Vanier Secondary

Josh – Grade 11, Fraser Academy
