Customer Projects: Vol. 94 - West Wind Hardwood

  1. I talked to Lars about a 1/4 inch sheet of mahogany plywood for my 1960 classic runabout restoration. I helped my dad from Denmark build 4 of these boats in our log cabin workshop in Port Alberni from 1958 to 1960. I have the last one we built and am on the 3rd restoration, having done the 1st in 1975 and the 2nd in 1990. The problem was the surface of the plywood deck disintegrating even when the boat is stored inside. I am hoping the new deck plywood is a better and thicker veneer than the old one. This boat is marine plywood over 7 yellow cedar frames and fibreglased. Have had up to a 35 hp Johnson on it for power, but presently have a 2010 25hp Yamaha 2 stroke ob on it. Lars was to e-mail me some shipping costs, but if they are too expensive or the sheet could arrive damaged, I can drive down to pick it up. Will try to enclose a boat picture. Thanks, Peter Olesen.
