All About Ipê - West Wind Hardwood

Pronounced “E-Pay” (Think Spanish)

This South American hardwood is virtually indestructible by weather, wear & tear, and vandalism; naturally resistant to rot and decay.  It is almost twice as dense as most woods and up to five times harder.  It is one of the most stable of all the durable decking materials.  It is maintenance-free if left to weather as it takes on the patina of “yachty” teak decking. Alternatively, keep it looking new with Ipe Oil. Buyer beware it is a ‘make-work’ look to be sure.

Ipê is perfect for exterior residential & commercial applications and can provide a lifetime of maintenance-free beauty & service. Ipê is not all about decking.

A picture is worth a thousand words. We’ve been involved with such a variety of very remarkable projects. Here is a photo essay showing Ipê’s versatility.

This is a thoroughbred horse racing stable built in the 90’s. It was West Wind’s first foray into exotic decking material and it’s still going strong.
