Description
Scientific name: Ochroma pyramidale
Grown in the tropical regions of the Americas or in plantations. It’s not a common commercial species. Most boards/blocks of Balsa are from the sapwood, which is a white to off-white or tan colour, sometimes with a pink or yellow hue. It has a straight, coarse grain and is considered soft and buoyant for a hardwood. You see this wood used in Buoys, rafts, surfboards, model airplanes, and musical instruments.
