Description:  

As the name implies, this wood is grown in Africa. It is the bourgeois cousin of Honduras mahogany. The heartwood varies from light to deep reddish-brown; ribbon-grain is predominant. It is widely used for furniture, cabinet making, general joinery and boat building. The density is approx. 34-36 lbs/ft3.

Description:  

This South American species is endangered and becoming more difficult to import as world organizations, such as CITES control its trade. Traditionally it replaced Cuban/Spanish mahogany that was historically cherished. The heartwood colour varies from light to dark reddish-brown to deep, rich red. The grain is straight to interlocked; we select for straight grain.

Description:  

Names are loosely and interchange used for: meranti, luan and a myriad of species from Southeast Asia. We offer the dark red meranti with a density of approx. 36-48 lbs/ft3. It is a substitute for Honduras mahogany when pricing is a priority. We consider it the second cousin of Honduras mahogany (twice removed). Although lacking in the richness of colour, it is clear and easy to work with. This represents a beautiful, offshore, exotic lumber at an affordable price.

Scented mahogany,
West African cedar

   
Description:  

A close-textured wood from Africa showing salmon pink to pale yellow; changing to reddish brown with age. Interlocking grain can change direction; can be regularly striped; has a light cedar-like scent. It is heavier than other African mahoganies; and reported to be comparable to Oak in strength properties. The International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO) reports that the species is an important source of timber. The species is reported to be secured from regulated sources.

Description:  

A domestic wood that is a multi-tasker. Its colour is cream-white with a reddish tinge. The texture is fine and straight. It is a moderately difficult wood to work owing to a high resistance to abrasion and wear with an approx. density of 45 lbs/ft3. All lumber is inspected for sticker staining and selected stock offers bird’s eye figure. It’s the most suitable species for food-related projects.
